Hot Date Spot: Cafe Intermezzo
Have you ever been on a date that was going so well that you didn't want it to end quite yet? Well here is a great spot to remember that will not only keep the night going but will take you to another place entirely! It is romantic, cozy and comes with over 100 different tortes, tarts, cakes, pies and cheesecakes.
Cafe Intermezzo has been serving sweets to Atlanta for over 30 years at their Dunwoody location and almost 25 years at their Peachtree Street location in Buckhead. They also have a Brookwood location and an Airport location on Concourse B. To date we've only visited the Dunwoody and Buckhead locations, the Buckhead location being our choice of the two for a romantic date. The food is just as good in Dunwoody, but the atmosphere in Buckhead is oh so not Atlanta!
Modeled on the European coffeehouses where the Hamburg, Germany owner grew up, the decor is a step back in time to early nineteenth century coffeehouses. In addition to the sweets you have numerous options from coffees, hot chocolates, to alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverages. Its impossible to not find a coffee and desert combination to love. They also serve a full breakfast, lunch and dinner menu.
While we like the meal options we have to be honest, it's the desserts and coffee that keep us coming back. The large dessert display is a mouth watering experience that you need to prepare yourself for both to see and hear about. There is a desert steward who will take you on tour describing each option and assist you in making the perfect selection if you become overwhelmed. Plan to spend five to 10 minutes gazing in awe while you narrow down your choice.
The drink menu is a small novel, listing hundreds of options. This is where it is fun to take a chance on something new because everything will be wonderful! Indoor old world atmosphere seating or year-round outdoor deck seating are equally good.
We would recommend outdoor seating if conversation with your sweets is what you desire. There are candlelight topped tables, a fountain and wait staff that knows how to let you enjoy yourself without interruption. Cafe Intermezzo is a unique place to spend time with a special person for an after dinner desert or simply a cup of coffee and conversation. This spot would make a memorable first date where you could soak up the atmosphere and get to know your date.
