Date Movies Set in France

As a follow up to our post on the top French restaurants in Atlanta, today we look at some of our favorite movies that are set in France. Our list is diverse including a Woody Allen movie, a love story, a musical, a animated film, and for the guys an action film, spanning the decades from the 1950's to 2011. These are by no means the definitive list, simply some movies that take place in France that we love. Instead of hitting the town for your next date, consider staying in and renting one of these movies.

• An American in Paris (1951) Three friends struggle to find work in Paris. However, things become more complicated when two of them fall in love with the same woman. The musical starring the great Gene Kelly won the Oscar in 1952 for Best Picture (and five other Oscars).
• Two for the Road (1967) On their third identical voyage from London to the Riviera, Joanna Wallace (Audrey Hepburn) and husband Mark (Albert Finney) explore their 12-year marriage in a series of wry and illuminating flashbacks. They reminisce about the glorious beginning of their love affair, the early years of marriage and the events that led to their subsequent infidelities. As they try to understand their relationship, they must accept how they have changed if they are to rekindle their original love.
• The French Connection II (1975) This sequel to the Oscar-winning The French Connection picks up almost exactly where the earlier film leaves off. Still on the trail of drug kingpin Frog One (Fernando Rey), narcotics officer "Popeye" Doyle (Gene Hackman) leaves his Manhattan stomping grounds and heads for Marseilles. There, Popeye is captured by Frog One's minions, who pump him full of drugs in hopes of turning the cop into a hopeless junkie. After a grueling "cold turkey" treatment, Popeye is up and about and chasing after the villains, determined to mete out justice.
• Frantic (1988) In a hotel room in Paris, a doctor (Harrison Ford) comes out of the shower and finds that his wife has disappeared. He soon finds himself caught up in a world of intrigue, espionage, gangsters, drugs and murder.
• Henry and June (1990) In 1931 Paris, Anais Nin (Maria de Medeiros) meets Henry Miller (Fred Ward) and his wife June (Uma Thurmon). Intrigued by them both, she begins expanding her sexual horizons with her husband Hugo as well as with Henry and others. June shuttles between Paris and New York trying to find acting jobs while Henry works on his first major work, "Tropic of Cancer," a pseudo-biography of June. Anais and Hugo help finance the book, but June is displeased with Henry's portrayal of her, and Anais and Henry have many arguments about their styles of writing on a backdrop of a Bohemian lifestyle in Paris.
• Ratatouille (2007) Remy is a young rat in the French countryside who arrives in Paris, only to find out that his cooking idol is dead. When he makes an unusual alliance with a restaurant's new garbage boy, the culinary and personal adventures begin despite Remy's family's skepticism and the rat-hating world of humans.
• Midnight in Paris(2011) Soon-to-be-married Gil (Owen Wilson) dreams of being a great novelist, like the ones drawn to the Paris scene in the 1920's. While in Paris with his fiancee (Rachel McAdams), troubles surface in the relationship. He finds solace wandering the streets of Paris, and at the stroke midnight, he's transported to the old Paris he's been dreaming of, where he meets Hemingway, Fitzgerald, Picasso, and all of his art and literary idols.
