Atlanta Matchmaker Simplifies Wine Ordering for Your Date

So you are out on a date, and she would like a glass of wine. She leaves the selection decision to you. oh, the pressure! What do you order? Your Atlanta Matchmaker has some tips.

Now, you don't have to be a wine expert, but you don't want to order something cheap that tastes horrible nor break the bank ordering the most expensive thing on the menu. Wines are strictly a matter of personal taste, however there are some "safe bets" when you are out on the town and ordering for your date off of a restaurant's menu.

As a general rule, stay away from Pinot Noir in a restaurant, especially if it's offered by the glass. California Cabernet's and Merlots are a dime a dozen and most are not that good. The best choices are red wines from Argentina and Chile and you will find very nice Cabernet's and Malbecs from these two countries. They are inexpensive, tasty, and your date will thank you for a wonderful selection.

If white wine is the order of the day, I would try a Sauvignon Blanc from Washington or New Zealand. Sauvignon Blanc is a very food-friendly wine, it is crisp tasting, and refreshing change from the usual boring "Chardonnay" that dominates most restaurant's white wine offerings.

Now after all that is said, here is an interesting wine study conducted at the Edinburgh International Science Festival this year. In a blind taste test of 570 people, only 42% could tell the difference between a $50 bottle and a $6 bottle of red wine, and fewer than 36% could tell the same difference in white wines. It just goes to show you that the price of wine is not a reliable indicator of how good or bad a particular bottle of wine will taste. Cheers!
